Coaching and Mentoring

This full-day workshop uses theatre-based learning to enable managers to develop their practical coaching and mentoring skills, so they can support colleagues via engaging, empowering interactions, raising self-awareness for both parties and strengthening working relationships.

What is it?

A highly interactive session that uses recognised coaching models and a live professional actor. Using relevant educational situations, delegates will build their knowledge, self-awareness and skills, and later in the session have the opportunity to practice their own coaching conversation with the actor playing their coachee.

What will I do on the day?

Through lots of observation, practical activities and discussion, we’ll explore some theories and techniques to use when coaching or mentoring, and support delegates to apply these to their own situations and teams. Delegates will focus on listening actively, asking the right questions, structuring conversations appropriately and work with individuals to set goals that help them fulfil their potential.

Giving delegates the opportunity to observe how ineffective the ‘tell’ approach can be, and how different approaches work better supports them to feel more confident to practice themselves and apply techniques to their own situations.

We also provide post-course support for new coaches to continue the learning and provide a sounding board, and offer additional digital resources with our blending learning option.

  • Explain how individual learning preferences impact coaching and mentoring conversations.

  • Lead an effective coaching conversation using a recognised technique.

0.1What is Theatre based learning?

Theatre Based Learning is the technique we use to bring learning to life by using our actors to perform scenarios, based on real case studies.

Theatre Based Learning can be either observational (where learners watch scenes and discuss) OR participative (where we use techniques like real-play and practice, forum where learners interact with the actors and direct them or hot-seating where learners give feedback to individual characters and make suggestions). This course uses our actors to both demonstrate presentation skills and often made mistakes and techniques with the ability for all learners to present and receive feedback

0.2What are the benefits of Coaching and Mentoring training?
This course enables more effective communication skills, and better motivation moving from a tell culture to a more collaborative approach through coaching or mentoring. Employees feel much more empowered and focused if they consider themselves part of the solution and not always told what to do without input. Our approach is to create a safe environment for managers to practice these skills and see what works, and what doesn't.
